To provide an actual example of what they mean by the length thing...I'd say my average RP length in CPW is between 1000-1500 words. I've done a good bit more, and I've done less, but...I'd say I usually tend to fall within that range. Back during my last run in FCW (which is a fed that a few of you are familiar with), I had a match against Debo (The Wrath in SW). I'm pretty sure the RP limit was 2, though it may have been three. Either way, by the end of the week, I had done the maximum amount of RPs. My average RP length that week? 4500 words. In one RP, I wrote the same amount as I did in 3-5 CPW RPs. And I did it by combining what would have been a few RPs over the course of a two or three weeks here...into one RP there.
Really, if someone wants to whore against an opponent, limits won't stop them from doing what I did in FCW. The only difference is, instead of people thinking that they did less RPs than their opponent, they're going to think that they lost because their RP was shorter than their opponent's. Though, that issue's been brought up better than I could possibly discuss it at this point. There are a few other things I want to say, though.
Part of the issue here seems to involve the whole judging process, in particular, where quantity is concerned. This is pretty understandable, though I'm curious where a lot of the information is coming from. There's only been, two, possibly three instances in the past few months where I can recall someone asking me why they lost. Now, don't get me wrong, I do realize that I'm not the only admin. I am, however, the one that organizes the judge's picks as they come in. What that means, is I know who each judge picked to win every match. I'm the one that knows their reasoning when they decide to give it, and I'm the one that officially knows how close a match is. For me to have only been asked a few times in the past few months (and in the instances that I can remember, I'm pretty sure that there was actually no overall RP difference between the people involved), it makes curious to know where people are hearing that they've lost matches because their opponent RPed a lot more than they did.
In fact, Cam, you can even verify yourself that we don't hold quantity in any special regard. You've asked to judge a few times in recent weeks. Can you honestly remember me telling you to pay special attention to who posted more RPs, and to make sure that the person who posted more RPs was given a lot more credit than the person who posted less? Seriously. What I told you was to read each RP and give your opinion on it. That's all. If you felt that a person spread themselves too thin by trying RP more than they should have, it was completely up to you to feel that way. It's the same with the other judges. We have no policy whatsoever with judging that gives the advantage to the person that RPs more in a given week, and just because one person believes that quantity plays a part in the decision, doesn't mean that everyone else feels that way. After all, there could be as many as 8-9 of us judging a particular show, and if quantity seems like it may end up playing some kind of role in the final decision, I actually tend to ask extra people who they think should win, just to make sure it's as definite an opinion as possible.
I also think that it's worth mentioning that, in the past few months, I can think of a grand total of one pick where someone went and used quantity alone as the deciding factor. Not one match...one pick. Does that many that's actually the case? No, it doesn't. It could have been a factor that people have simply failed to mention. Still, for it to only have been mentioned ONCE...well, I'd say that says a lot about how big of a role it really plays in the outcome of a match.
And finally, there is also the fact that Will brought up. There's pretty much been one match in recent memory that I recall where someone finished the week with a great deal more RPs than their opponent. That was at Super Brawl, Chuie vs. Blackman. And like Will said...in that case, the person who RPed less...won. So, yeah.
I'm not saying that there isn't two sides to their issue. There is, believe me. This debate's come up in the past for that reason alone. It's just that, in my personal opinion...there's no need to make an official rule. As Gina's already argued, it won't necessarily solve anything. And then there's the issue of whether or not it's an issue at all. If you know you're going to have a limited amount of time during a given week, there's no reason that you and your opponent can't go and set your own limits for a particular match. But honestly, it's been years since I can honestly say that quantity alone has a played a huge part in how certain matches have gone, etc.
Though, this is just my opinion on the matter. You can feel to disagree with it. Since I have the feeling I wouldn't have even bothered to post as much of one as I did if I were booked and had a reason to RP, but...hey. Just how life works sometimes. <.<
