Hours remain from what might be the biggest match of the six people trying to go after Chaotic Pro’s Xtreme Chaos Championship. The buzz inside the arena between the ring crew as they set up the chamber has everyone excited for what is at hand. But as the fans begin to pour inside of a sold out AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas we find ourselves in the depths of the arena, in a converted utility room that now sits as Nightmare’s dressing room.
And we get no wondering where the champ is as we see him sitting in silence, his duffle bag with ring gear on a metal chair next to him. We see him just looking at his phone, the screen black as if in sleep mode but his focus remains. Compared to the other night you can really see some of the deeper scars that sit on his back and shoulders, but none more visible than the one around his neck.
Placing his phone down we watch as Gavin stands up and paces the room for a moment, shaking his head a little bit as if trying to get back into the right headspace. After crisscrossing a few times across the room we watch as Gavin walks over to his bag and pulls out a white t-shirt and throws it on. Revealing the front graphic of Denni Summers posing like Kelly Kapowski before taking a seat back on the bench. He holds his hands together in a ball of interlocked fingers and presses his head into them before finally acknowledging the presence of the camera and begins to speak.
“Ya know they say sometimes you should save the best for last.”
He releases his fingers and places his hands at his side, gripping the bench as he lets out a smirk.
“And there isn’t anyone like you Joe, you truly are the best in the world; you’ve been the best since I first walked into this company back in 2008. Watching you and Denni retain the titles versus Helms and Filth was something to watch. At that point I was only wrestling in bingo halls and VFW’s across the north east. There were a lot of things that I experienced that night for the first time. Being in Vegas for starters, wrestling in front of an arena of fans, and watching mighty Joe Summers.”
“And in the sixteen years since my first Damnation and a Day you’ve truly been a staple of this company. A constant paragon of justice you’ve proven time and time again why Summer is never going to end. And that’s something I admire about you Joe; you’ve always stood for the little guy; always fought for those who couldn’t. But not for people like me Joe; I clawed, and I scratched, and I pulled myself from the gallows of where life wanted me to be and I made something of myself.”
Gavin pauses briefly as he takes a breath to calm himself before speaking once more.
“If you are the paragon of virtue then I am the devil incarnate; but I think you’ve known that for quite sometimes. I mean wherever I am destruction is near, but I’m not talking about the physicality that comes from destruction. No I am talking about the long standing effects that linger after the fact; the panic and the fear that runs freely in the back of your head. I ask how many nights did Denni wake up after the war she and I went through. A war that you had to step in and put a stop too because you saw the toll it was doing to her mentally.”
“And I don’t hate you for that, I respect it really because no one else was going to stop me much like I respect Chico for taking that barbwire and choking me out. Because when you take action for what others are allowing to happen people like me go away. But I’m not like other people Joe and you know that; I am ever constant like cancer. Coming back when everyone least expects it and amplifying my damage tenfold every time I return. When you took me out, I was gone for three years only to come back and become the longest reigning Air Raid Champion. When Chico took me out, I came back and I won the Xtreme Chaos Championship and the Devastation Championship in a matter of weeks.”
“And I will admit and say that finally holding the belt that’s eluded me for 14 years when I lost it the same night I won it to Matt Starr was relief. But I was heartbroken when the bell rang and I had my arm held in victory because you weren’t there Joe. Winning this title was just a bonus to get to what I truly want; and that’s you Joe. King of Chaos the world got a taste of the two of us one on one and the spectacle it was to witness. And when I watched you win the crown I knew that to get to you I needed to give you a reason to come to me. Because Joe for sixteen years I’ve watched you rise over evil over and over and over and I am done with it.”
Gavin smirks as he stands up and stretches his arms out, keeping his back to the camera.
“I am walking into the Elimination Chamber as the Xtreme Chaos Champion; I am walking into Dallas and I am going to finally bring an end to summer. And I am aware that things could go sideways, and you or I could be eliminated and rob the world of the clash we could hand out. Anyone of the other four people inside that chamber with us could turn their dream into a reality. But the reality is that I am the fucking champion and I don’t plan on going anywhere anytime soon. So don’t break my heart Joe because you’re my hero; and I want you to have a front row seat when I win this match. With Denni backstage I want them all to watch as I stand over the fallen king with my arms raised to the heavens. Give them one last glimpse of the world they once knew before it all comes crashing down and the reality begins to sink in while I take my seat on the dead throne.”
Turning back to the camera we see Gavin’s stare daggers to the lens.
“That this Nightmare is only growing and his name is Gavin FUCKING McKenzie.”
Gavin’s gaze is broken as we see his phone light up with a notification, walking over he takes a seat and sees a message from an unknown number. Though no number to return the text too the picture was enough to bring a tear to run down his cheek. Trying to get a glimpse we’re able to see a little boy holding a picture he drew that says my Daddy the Champ.
The reality begins to sink in at the impact this has for Gavin; who hasn’t seen nor heard from his son since his ex-wife left. Wiping the tear off his cheek Gavin slides his phone into his pocket and looks too exit the room, pausing only briefly to address the still running camera.
“I hope that everyone has their affairs in order because the chamber is as unforgiving as my fist. And I am ready to show that I truly belong where I am.”
Reaching forward Gavin opens the door and exits the room; the video feed cutting to static a second later.
