Stephen and Ryan Ashworth, the brothers who form the team known as Ripper, seem to be in really good moods as they sit outside at a table in the French Quarter of New Orleans. It appears they are sitting down for a meal while the CPW stops in the Big Easy. And when visiting the Crescent City, if you are going to eat, you need to sample the local cuisine, and no where is better than the French Quarter. This is rather exciting for Ripper, their first time in New Orleans, a place Stephen has admitted he's only ever seen in The Princess and the Frog and Leverage Redemption.
Stephen: “So, anyone do anything interesting recently? We saw the total eclipse. It was awesome. We bought the glasses early from a Cumberland Farms back home of all places. It seemed kind of weird they sold it. But, we are not complaining.”
Ryan: “Oh, it was cool And it was great that Damnation And A Day was in Arlington, TX. Really glad the CPW took care of the hotel for this show. And really, how often do you get to see something like that? A total solar eclipse is very rare in the United States. And as we don't know what the future holds, this is literally a once in a lifetime opportunity.”
Stephen: “Saw a couple of movies. Got out and saw Civil War and Monkey Man. Both were really good movies. Rather brutal at times, and you would expect that as one is a revenge film and the other is dealing with a war, but I enjoyed them. They really don't tell you how the war started in Civil War, but it doesn't take anything away from the movie.”
Ryan: “Caught up with some shows I've been watching and finally started some games I have been putting off. Some times, it's nice to just relax and unwind, you know?”
Stephen: “Yeah. You have to make time for things like that.”
Stephen gestures to the restaurant he and his brother are seated at. Ryan nods in agreement.
Ryan: “You really do.”
Stephen: “There was something we did.”
Ryan: “Well, we did see family.”
Stephen: “Yeah we did see family. Been busy, and traveling a lot, so we haven't seen a lot of family these last few weeks.”
Ryan: “Very true.”
Stephen: “There was something else we did, wasn't there?”
Ryan: “I think so. Seemed kind of big really. You'd think we would remember.”
Stephen: “I know, right? What was it?”
Ryan: “Did you get new shoes?”
Stephen shakes his head.
Stephen: “I did a few weeks ago. Did you beat that Mario RPG remake?”
Ryan: “Awhile ago.”
Stephen: “I know we did something else. What was it?”
Ryan: “No idea. I know what you mean though. I know we did something but for the life of me, I cannot remember.”
Stephen: “Oh right! Now I remember. We won the Triple Crown Tag Team Championships at Damnation And A Day.”
Ryan: “You're goddamned right we did!”
The brothers fist bump.
Stephen: “We walked into Damnation And A Day knowing full well we did not have a shot in hell of pulling this off. We were facing “gods.” But the thing Duke and Ava forgot is when you enter into a boss fight, you hold nothing back. Whatever you have in the tank, you use every bit of it to get that win. You keep trying and trying. No one thought we could beat Duke and Ava, and they were fair to say that considering how long Duke and Ava held these titles and how many teams they held off. They all thought it could not be done. We knew Duke and Ava had been beaten before. They could be beaten again. They said it was impossible. We did the impossible. We climbed Olympus and we slayed the gods.”
Ryan: “Oh, make no mistake. We know sooner or later, we are going to be back in the ring with Duke and Ava, and we know we are in for it then. We're most certainly in for it then. But whether they take the titles back or not is a whole separate issue. We just know it will be one hell of a match. But, we beat them once and we are crazy enough to think we can beat them again.”
Stephen: “We take absolutely nothing away from Duke Jupiter and Ava. Duke is an absolute legend. We're kind of looking forward to seeing Duke Jupiter versus Joe Summers for the Xtreme Chaos Championship. For a guy like Duke, this is may be just a bump in the road. And, if he and Ava decide to pack it in and return home, then it was a solid final run. Either way, they are Hall of Fame bound if the CPW ever gets one of those.”
Ryan: “Oh, they are more than qualified to enter into the Hall of Fame. Duke himself is a first year ballot. But, I don't think the CPW actually has a Hall of Fame. Which is a shame. There are a lot of guys who could be inducted. ”
Stephen: “Duke, Ava, we consider those matches we had to be an honor.”
Ryan: “We do. And if you want another match, let us know.”
Stephen: “But that upcoming match with Duke and Ava, if it happens is not the match we have this week.”
Ryan: “Oh, no it is not. That match is a match we do not even know if it is happening. This match, we do know it is happening. And, just like fighting Duke and Ava, we consider this match to be an honor.”
Stephen: “This week we take on the Incredible MachSpeed Slingshot Red and Avery Wright. These are two of the toughest wrestlers in the CPW. And we say wrestlers. We are not going to insult their accomplishments or take anything away from them by categorizing them as woman and making it seem like their accomplishments are not equal or even more impressive than a man's. I am comfortable enough in my masculinity to admit there are several women in the world who could kill me. And I do not mean with a weapon. Anyone can do that. I mean bare handed, and some of whom on that list would not need to break stride to end me. We just saw Slingshot Red have one of the most brutal run of matches in CPW history against Victoria Travis in what we consider was the Feud of the Year. No offense meant to some of the other rivalries that happened this past year, but those three matches were insane. We watched Slingshot Red get thrown off the top of the Hell in a Cell and still continue the match. Do you think we could do that? I don't know and I have absolutely no desire to find out. They were crazy matches though.”
Ryan: “Oh, we have seen what Slingshot Red can do in the ring. We know very well what she's capable of, She is one of the toughest wrestlers in the CPW. I think that may be her superpower, her ability to take the kind of punishment we have seen her take an keep going. And really, how do you even prepare for something like that? We know we can know her down, that's the easy part. But keeping her down? That's where it gets harder. And there are a lot of people on the roster that will attest to that. So, yeah, we know she's tough. We've seen it match after match, but this is the first time we are ever going to experience it for ourselves. And to be honest, it is a little exciting, because we have no idea how this match is going to go, and we could not even dream of trying to guess.”
Stephen: “And of course, with Slingshot Red, we have Avery Wright, who honestly feels like one of the most overlooked and underused wrestlers in the CPW. We've seen her go weeks without a match or a title defense to a point you almost forget she's the Brutal Havok Champion. It's a shame really, because she's a King of Chaos winner, and yet, she refuses to cash that opportunity in, and she's never even had a shot at the title. We've seen so many people who you have to wonder how they got the opportunity get the opportunity, but some odd reason, Avery Wright never comes up. I think you could argue Slingshot Red has more than earned a shot herself.”
Ryan: “Avery Wright is one of those talents the CPW seems to be sleeping on. And it makes total sense Slingshot Red thinks they need something to showcase them. Everyone knows how good they are, but doesn't seem like they get those opportunities or chances. Personally, I'd be very interested in seeing something like Avery Wright versus Joe Summers or Avery Wright versus Nightmare. Those sound like they would be fantastic matches. We keep wanting to see Avery Wright actually use the King of Chaos win she has. We get why she doesn't want to. We do. And honestly, if we were in Slingshot Red's shoes, we're not sure we would have made the same call. We would have probably gone to the end. But, we completely understand, and we respect what she did. We know a lot of people do not, be we do.”
Stephen: “No mind games, no violent pre-match or post match attacks. Just the two of you versus the two of us. We're not going to use chairs or titles or the ring bell or whatever we can find under the ring. We're not going to say the announce table won't come into play, but we are not planning to put you through the table. But, if one of you is outside and one of us launches ourself out of the ring, and we hit and knock you against or on top of the table, that's just something that happens. But, we are not planning to do something like drive you through a table. We are going to step into the ring and try to beat the hell out of each other like civilized people. That seems to be what you want, and that certainly sounds fair to us.”
Ryan: “Yeah, it really does. There's no pressure here. It's just a good, simple match. And really, I think we all could use that right now. We're coming off a couple of matches with Archangel Michael that somehow lead us to a match with Duke and Ava and we ended up the new Triple Crown Tag Team Champions. We're not sure how it happened either. Slingshot Red is coming off a series of matches with Victoria Travis that were just great matches and Avery's looking to show off what she can do. There's no pressure here. We'll take that.”
Stephen: “So, Avery, Slingshot Red, we'll see you at Pure Mayhem.”
Ryan: “We are looking forward to it.”
The scene fades to black as the newly crowned Triple Crown Tag Team Champions prepare for their meal.
Stephen: “So, anyone do anything interesting recently? We saw the total eclipse. It was awesome. We bought the glasses early from a Cumberland Farms back home of all places. It seemed kind of weird they sold it. But, we are not complaining.”
