”I only gotta beat one. That’s all it takes.”
Kelly James smirks as she stands before the camera, the Xtreme Chaos Championship resting on her shoulder. Her first official title defense being at the biggest show of the year, Super Brawl, should have been enough to make her nervous as it is, and going in there against three men atleast twice her size served only to add to it. Instead, though, she didn’t seem nervous at all, as she held up a finger to emphasize her point.
”There’s three other people in the match, all dauntin’ in their own right. Beatin’ all three should seem like a near insurmountable task for somebody like me, right? I don’t gotta beat all three, though. I just gotta beat one. Hell, I don’t even gotta do that. They can beat each other, and I just gotta pin one. In fact, that sounds pretty alright with me. You know, standin’ back, lettin’ ‘em slug it out with each other until one seems ripe for a Photo Finish and a quick one-two-three. It’s more or less how I won the title to begin with. I picked my spot, and I became the champion. Wouldn’t mind doin’ that one again, that’s for sure.
Now, hold on. I hear you all. ‘But Kelly, that’s not what an honorable champion would do, is it?’ Well, voices in my head, you gotta be a champion to be any kind of somethin’-or-other champion, in the first place. That’s the kicker. And, if I’m bein’ honest, well… I prefer bein’ the champion over bein’ ‘honorable’ any day of the week. I feel like I’ve made this abundantly clear, yeah? I’m not lookin’ for a handshake and a ‘maybe next time,’ I’m lookin’ to leave Super Brawl havin’ successfully defended my Xtreme Chaos Championship. I just won the thing, I sure as hell am not lookin’ to lose it any time soon. If that means pickin’ my spots, I’ll pick my spots. If that means thumbin’ an eye, or bitin’ a forearm, I won’t think twice. Hell, if it means kickin’ a grown man through the uprights, I’ll kick ‘em so hard they doubt they’ll ever have children. I am goin’ to do anythin’, and I mean anythin’, to keep my championship. I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it a thousand times over, until nobody doubts the lengths I’ll go to in that ring, and everybody recognizes why I’m at the top of the mountain in the first place. Breakin’ away from the pack isn’t easy, and now that I’m leadin’ the race, I’ll do what it takes not to be passed up again. You don’t have to like it. You probably shouldn’t. I’m not here for your approval, though. If I got it, great, if I don’t, that’s the risk of the game. I can’t afford to let that stop me for a second, especially not in a match like this. I’m the least experienced one enterin’ that ring in the main event, and I look more like somebody’s lost kid sister than I do a wrestler standin’ beside pretty much any of ‘em. These are problems I recognize, and they’re problems I’m choosin’ to deal with how I need to deal with ‘em. It is what it is, and I’m always goin’ to be brutally honest about that.
That said, I’m not like Disturbed or some of the others like him that can’t help but have their little temper tantrums after a match if it doesn’t go their way. What happens between the bells stays between the bells. A victory don’t mean much if you don’t actually win it on the track itself, so what’s the point? I’m not about tryin’ to spin somebody out on their victory lap, or even slashin’ their tires before they get off the line. That doesn’t do me any good for actually provin’ I’m the fastest out there if the others are limpin’ along from the start, does it? Nah, I’ll do whatever the hell I need to do once the race begins, and, frankly, it’s on you for givin’ me the opportunity. If you take a turn high, I’m passin’ you low, even if I gotta give you little love tap to do so. Don’t like it? Run a better line. When that checkered flag waves, though… When that second bell rings, well… That’s where it ends. Either I won, or I didn’t. Either I’m the best, or I’m not. Again, think what you want, but that’s what I’m about. Makin’ that real clear.
Enough about Kelly James, though. We can talk about me more when I walk away from my very first Super Brawl still holdin’ this belt, and I’ll live it up then. There are three others in this match, and they’re a threat in their own right. Disturbed’s the obvious favorite, after his showin’ against us the last time we were all in the ring together, and he earned that right. We were all left layin’, after all, and there’s nothin’ to say any of us could stop him from goin’ on another rampage right to the Xtreme Chaos Championship. That said, he was there when I won the title. I said before that he’s a wall I haven’t found a way through, yet… But last time, I found a way around it, and this match seems ripe to do that again. Like I said, I only need to beat one. It doesn’t have to be him. Not sayin’ it can’t be, who knows what opportunities may present themselves when we get there. I’m just sayin’ that if you think he’s the sure bet, well… That’s what you thought last time, wasn’t it?
Then there’s Nightmare, the guy who actually did just tear down that wall this past Pure Mayhem, as he won the Devastation Championship. It’d be pointless to go on about how dangerous he can be, anybody who has even caught a whiff of CPW knows that. All I can say is that while he may thrive on chaos, I’m the one with the track record for survivin’ it. I won a twenty person battle royal to get my shot in the first place. I overcame two competitors to win the championship at King of Chaos. Nightmare may have just beat Disturbed head on, but I’ve also overcome the guy, and in a match a lot more similar to this one, to boot. No disrespect to what he accomplished, but this just feels like my wheelhouse, ya know?
Finally, we have good ol’ Francisco Lopez. I actually feel for Frankie, I really do. Always the bridesmaid, never the bride. I get the desire, I see his passion, and I respect it. That said, I couldn’t help but noticin’ how, when he talked about me bein’ made a non-factor in our meetin’ a few weeks ago, he failed to mention that he was the one that lost the match a few seconds later. Not exactly a showin’ to be crowin’ about, is it? He says he wants it more than any of us, but I’m not really sure that tracks. If he really wanted it more, he’d have it. He’s had the opportunities, and all they’ve showed is that he hasn’t wanted it enough, apparently. Me? I wanted it, and I got it, all within my first year. I’m holdin’ it today, right in front of you. That’s how you know how much I wanted it. I didn’t just say I wanted it, I actually went and got it. I wanted it, I got it. Period. You can say it’s not actually that easy, but, well… From where I’m standin’…”
She glances over, patting the Xtreme Chaos Championship resting on her shoulder.
”Can you blame me for thinkin’ it is? You’ve been sayin’ you want it more than anybody for years, Frankie. All I’m sayin’ is you need to step it up a hell of a lot to actually prove it, because I wanted it, I got it, and now what I want is to keep it.
Like I said, all it takes is one opportunity. One Photo Finish, a rollup… Hell, one of you could spontaneously explode, and I’d find the biggest piece of you left to pin while the people in the front row are pickin’ the rest of you out of their hair. I don’t care what it is, once that bell rings… I’m winnin’ this race. I’m keepin’ this belt, one way or another. Which brings me back to you, all of you lovely voices I’m hearin’… Because I don’t think what would make me an ‘honorable’ champion is just doin’ whatever is deemed the ‘right’ thing to do, as dictated by some ambiguous morality. No, what I think will make me an honorable champion is actually showin’ this belt the respect it deserves, by doin’ anythin’ and everythin’ in my power to fight and keep it. Think what you want, though… I’m just bein’ honest.
Either way, I guess I’ll be seein’ you at Super Brawl, boys. Try to keep up.”
She gives the camera a final smirk as the scene comes to a close.
