It is a gorgeous day outside in Arlington, Texas. AT&T Stadium, the site of Damnation And A Day XXII looms in the background
Stephen and Ryan Ashworth, the two brothers who form the tag team Ripper, are standing one the walking paths near the AT&T Stadium. A gentle breeze ruffles the leaves of the trees. Ryan is hopping up and down. Stephen is pacing a little, hands over his mouth. While they may be nervous, this is not due to nerves. It is not fear or anything like that. It is excitement, eagerness to get in the ring and compete for championship gold. This is their shot and they know it.
Stephen stops pacing and turns towards the camera.
Stephen: “I think it was the IRA who once said “we only have to be lucky once. You will have to be lucky always” and yeah, it's weird I am quoting terrorists and I realize that. But the point, Duke and Ava, is that that statement hold true to our match at Damnation And A Day. We only need that one moment, those three seconds where your shoulders are on the mat, for us to become the new CPW Triple Crown Tag Team Champions, and prove that we can beat you. Just three seconds. And even if we do it once, that means we have still done it and pulled off a major upset. It means that Duke Jupiter and Ava are not as invincible as they would have everyone believe, and they can be beaten. And even if we hold those titles until Pure Mayhem, and you walk into the match, beat us and take the titles back, we still proved we could do it. We will still have proved you are not unbeatable and you are not unstoppable.”
Ryan stops jumping and nods in agreement with his older brother.
Ryan: “And we will admit that it is a lot easier said than done. No one is going to ever say Duke Jupiter or Ava are an easy win. Duke, you have done it all, seen it all, and came back around to do it again. We know this. Guys like you, Joe Summers, Denni Summers, Disturbed, were huge parts in getting the CPW to where it is today. We know how good you two are. We didn't just walk in here blind not knowing who you were. We know you you helped built this company. And we know how big this match is. We know how big it is.”
Stephen: “You guys helped build the CPW to what it is today. There is no denying that fact. But, Ava said it herself, Duke, you are like a relic of an era gone by. And hey, we will admit that it was a great era to be a part of. The CPW seemed more vibrant, fresher, a lot more active than it does today. But that era has come and gone, Duke. And some of you still hold on, but sooner or later, your time has to come ot an end. Sooner or later, Duke, history will push you aside. You won't be forgotten, but you will find yourself in an age that you are no longer a part of. All you can do, Duke, is delay it, but you cannot deny it. It will happen. And it will happen to us when it becomes our time. That is inevitable.”
Ryan: “Times change, Duke and Ava. Eras end. God willing, our careers last long enough to where we find ourselves in a similar position many years from now. And that's really the question I suppose. Are we going to cling on as long as we can, or will we know when it is time to walk away? Ages end, Duke and Ava. Eventually, the new takes over while the old fades away. You can say the more things change the more they stay the same, but you cannot fight change and expect to win.”
Stephen: “It's funny you want to mention ups and downs, because the climb up Mount Olympus is actually considered quite easy for the most part. It's like a hike you can complete in about a day. But, it only gets difficult when you reach the top, and the tallest peak is considered difficult. People have died attempting to climb it, with most just slipping off. But still, even reaching the highest peak is more a scramble than a full climb, and that's the most dangerous part. Not that I have actually done it, but seen some videos on YouTube. But we are not talking Mount Everest or K2, which, again, I have never climbed, but seen some movies and read a few articles on them. And of all the deaths on Olympus, only one person was ever struck by lightning while scaling the mountain, which seems kind of crazy if you think about it. So, yes Duke, Ava, we're going to try to do what Bellerophon did and climb Olympus to take our place among the gods. And we either pull this off or we take a a lot of lightning to the face, but either way, we will dare to challenge the gods.”
Ryan: “And challenge the gods we will. Oh, we will. You don't need to tell us to make the most of this opportunity because we know we need to make the most of this opportunity. We know we need ot make this count. We do not know when or where will we get another shot at those titles. So, yeah, we know how big this match is. We tried at Super Brawl and we came up short. And we could make excuses, we could blame Divalicious or whatever, but we are not going to do that. We know this is our shot, and we are planning to take it.”
Stephen: “You want to tell us how the gods kill? What you forget, Duke and Ava, is that gods can be killed, A ship heading towards Italy heard a voice shout “The great god Pan is dead!” And let's not forget about Ragnarok, shall we? Odin gets killed by Fenrir, Thor slays the world serpent but the fight takes too much out of him and he dies, Heimdall and Loki kill each other, Freyr gets killed by the fire giant Surtr because he didn't have his sword, so many gods die, Surtr sets the Nine Realms on fire, everything burns and then everything resets. We know Balder was killed when Loki tricked his brother Hod into throwing a sprig of mistletoe into his heart. Gods, Duke and Ava, can be fought, and can be beaten. But the truest way to kill a god is to simply cease worshiping them. Oh sure, people remember their names, recall who they were, but their temples remain empty, no sacrifices are made to them. They fade away, their powers pretty much gone. But, the gods can be fought, and the gods can be beaten, because, Duke and Ava, the gods do not think anyone at all can beat them, are capable of taking them down. What is a god to a non-believer?”
The Ashworth brothers turn and face the AT&T Stadium, the site of Damnation and a Day. They look at each other and nod in an unspoken agreement.
Ryan: “Duke, Ava, you can try to take us to school all you want, and you may think you are going to teach us something, but we could be the ones who teach you. You sit there and you say that we are good, but at the same time, we know you are underestimating us. You are, and have been on top of the world for along time. You underestimated the Maritime Union and it cost you. And underestr8imating us may just cost you.”
Stephen: “So, at Damnation And A Day, either the gods slay us, or we slay the gods? Oh, I like that challenge. So yeah, we're willing to roll those dice on this one and let's party.”
Ryan: “Time to see if we can slay the gods.”
The two brothers slowly point to the AT&T Stadium and their shot at greatness.
